Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar was called "Mio Cid" (Milord) by the Muslims and he still remains as the most popular hero of the Middle Ages.
This model represents the moment when the future King of Castile Alfonso IV was forced to swear not to be involved in the assassination of his brother, King Sancho, by the most trustworthy of the Kingdom´s soldier, El Cid. Forcing a KIng to do something, especially an oath, was considered as an affront. That is why King Alfonso VI banished El Cid from the Kingdom and therefore his own legend began.
